One of the major challenges facing the nuclear industry,
is the retrieval and immobilisation of liquid, intermediate
and low level waste. Traditionally the approach to solving
this problem has been to design and build bespoke systems
on a site by site basis. This approach was both costly and
time consuming.
Working with British Nuclear Group, NSG has designed and
built a number of process plants based on a modular design
principle. This not only enables the plant to be transported
from site to site, but also be operated on a campaign basis.
Work began on this concept in 1988, and since then NSG has
built three waste encapsulation plants and has completed over
30 campaigns, processing more than 380,000 litres of waste.
